MAY 2011 --
Honda is recalling certain model year
2012 Civic 2-door and 4-door vehicles
manufactured from April 21, 2011, through
May 2, 2011. There is a possibility that an
o-ring, which seals a connection in the fuel
feed line, is misaligned. If the o-ring is
misaligned, a small fuel leak may occur.
Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition
source, could result in a fire. Dealers will
replace the fuel feed line assembly, free of
charge. The safety recall began on May 27,
2011. 11V-288
MARCH 2011 -- Honda is recalling certain
model year 2006-2007 Honda Civic hybrid vehicles. There is a potential for the
voltage converter that relays power from the integrated motor assist (IMA)
system to the vehicle's electrical components to fail. This failure will cause
the headlights to turn off, the engine to stall, and prevent the vehicle from
being restarted, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the
voltageconverter free of charge. The safety recall began on March 25, 2011.
11V-106
MARCH 2011 --
Honda is recalling certain model year 2011 Honda Civic vehicles. To prevent
fuel from leaking out of a vehicle's fuel tank into the evaporative emissions
canister in the event a roll-over incident occurs, the fuel pump module is
equipped with a roll over valve (ROV). Due to improper ultrasonic welding of the
plastic case that houses the ROV within the fuel pump module, the case material
may break or crack, which may cause the ROV to separate from the case and fail
to function, thereby increasing the risk of fuel leakage in a roll-over
incident. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a
fire. Dealers will inspect the fuel pump module and if necessary replace the
module free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or before April
11, 2011. 11V-176

NEWS:
Honda adds 833,000
vehicles to airbag recall
YAHOO NEWS --
May 4, 2011 – Honda Motor Co Ltd expanded an
earlier recall of Honda and Acura vehicles
over airbags that could deploy with too much
pressure, causing injuries or fatalities,
the company said.
The expanded
recall adds more than 833,000 vehicles for
the model years 2001 through 2003.
Some of these
vehicles contain replacement airbags that
could contain the defect. Honda is looking
for 2,430 replacement airbags that could
contain the defect, but could not locate
them all, leading to the large recall.
This is the
fourth time Honda has widened its airbag
recall. The first recall related to this
issue was in 2008.
The number of
vehicles affected now stands at 1.65
million, according to figures reported to
the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration.
These
additional vehicles were not included in
earlier safety recalls because the original
airbag modules on the driver's side were not
affected by the issue. But replacement
airbags could contain the defect, Honda
said.
Honda told
safety regulators that just 0.29 percent of
the affected vehicles are likely to contain
the defect.
In certain
vehicles, excess pressure could cause the
airbag inflator to rupture. Metal fragments
could pass through the airbag cushion
material causing injury or even a fatality.
A "small
number" of injuries and two fatalities are
linked to the airbag recalls, Honda
spokeswoman Christina Ra said. These were
not recent and did not kick off this move,
Ra said.
The recall
includes some 2001 and 2002 Accord and Civic
sedans, 2002 Odyssey minivans and 2002 and
2003 CR-V crossover vehicles. It also
includes 2002 and 2003 Acura 3.2 TL and 2003
3.2 CL vehicles.

Honda recalls 37,000 Civic Hybrid cars in US
YAHOO NEWS -- March 7, 2011 – Honda recalls
37,000 Civic Hybrid cars in US
In the latest
defect recall to hit Japanese automakers,
Honda said Thursday it will recall nearly
37,000 Civic Hybrids in the United States.
Honda said a
faulty converter in the hybrid control
system could lead to the engine stalling and
malfunction of the headlights.
No injuries
or accidents have been reported in relation
to the problem, which affects 2006 and 2007
models.
It comes two
weeks after Honda said it was recalling
nearly 700,000 vehicles worldwide due to
defective parts that could stall the engine
and cause problems restarting in certain
models.
Honda has now
recalled more than four million vehicles
since February 2010 over a range of
different issues, while Nissan has pulled
around 3.5 million in the same period.
Toyota became
mired in crisis when it recalled nearly nine
million vehicles between late 2009 and
February last year due to brake and
accelerator defects linked to deadly
accidents that tarnished its image of
reliability.
As criticism
mounted of its slow response and
bureaucratic inflexibility, Toyota tightened
its recall policy and has pulled around 16
million units since late 2009 over a range
of issues.

AUGUST 2010 --
Honda is recalling certain model year
2003 Honda Accord, Civic two and four door,
and model year 2003-2004 Honda Element
vehicles. The interlock lever of the
ignition switch may unexpectedly
deform,which can allow the interlock
function of a vehicle with an automatic
transmission to be defeated. Removal of the
ignition key when the gear selector of a
vehicle with an automatic transmission has
not been shifted to the park position can
allow the vehicle to roll away, increasing
the risk of a crash. Dealers will remove the
original interlock pin and lever within the
ignition switch, and replace them with new,
designed components. This service will be
performed free of charge. The safety recall
is expected to begin on or about September
29, 2010. 10V-364

NEWS:
Honda recalls
383,000 US vehicles on ignition problem
Honda on
Monday announced the recall of 383,000
vehicles in the United States because of
problems with the ignition which could allow
drivers to remove their key when the vehicle
is not in the park position.
Honda said
some ignition locking devices became damaged
or worn over time, allowing the key to be
removed when the transmission is not in
park. If that occurs, the vehicle could roll
away and cause an accident, Honda said.
"Honda has
received several complaints about such
failures in these vehicles and is aware of a
small number of related incidents, including
one that resulted in a minor injury," the
Japanese automaker said in a statement.
The recall
affects approximately 197,000 Accord and
117,000 Civic vehicles from the 2003 model
year and roughly 69,000 Element vehicles
from the 2003 and 2004 model years.
Honda last
week recalled 585 Element vehicles from the
2010 model year to reset the automatic
transmission shift cable.
"During
vehicle assembly, some shift cables were not
installed correctly, and over time the cable
may become partially disconnected," Honda
said. "As a result, a driver may move the
gear shift lever but the transmission may
not be placed in the selected gear."
Honda said it
had received a small number of customer
complaints related to the gear selector
mechanism, but no incidents or injuries were
reported.

NEWS:
Honda recalls 440,000
cars for airbag risk
DETROIT
(Reuters) - July 31, 2009 -
Honda Motor Co said on
Friday that it is recalling another 440,000
vehicles -- including some of its
best-selling Accord and Civic models -- for
a potentially lethal airbag defect.
Honda said that the airbag
inflators in some of its top-selling sedans
can rupture because of too much air pressure
causing metal fragments to shoot through the
airbag and strike vehicle occupants.
One fatality and a number
of injuries have been linked to the defect,
Honda spokesman Sage Marie said.
The recall covers certain
2001 and 2002 Accords, 2001 Civics and some
2002 and 2003 model Acura TL sedans. The
driver's side airbag is the defective
component on the affected vehicles
Honda said owners of those
models can check to see if their vehicle is
covered by the recall by checking the
automaker's website at www.owners.honda.com/recalls.
The Japanese automaker
said it was encouraging owners to wait until
they received a recall notice to go to a
dealership and have the inflator for the
steering-wheel airbag replaced.
Honda had originally
announced that it would recall some 2001
Accord and Civic sedans for the defect last
November.
The notice issued on
Friday added another 440,000 vehicles to the
recall.

JULY 2009 --
Honda is
recalling 440,000 Model Year
2001 and 2002 Civic, Accord,
and Acura vehicles. The
driver's airbag inflator
could produce excessive
internal pressure. If an
affected airbag deploys, the
increased internal
pressure may cause the
inflator to rupture. Metal
fragments could pass through
the air bag cushion material
possibly causing injury to

Dealers will replace the
airbag inflator free of

expected to begin during
August 2009. Honda's recall
campaign Nos. Q96 (Accord
and Civic) and R13 (Acura).
09V-259
NOVEMBER 2008 --
Honda is recalling 3,940 MY 2001 Accord and
Civic vehicles. The driver's air bag
inflator could produce excessive internal
pressure. If an affected air bag deploys,
the increased internal pressure may cause
the inflator to rupture. Metal fragments
could pass through the air bag cushion
material possibly causing injury to vehicle
occupants. Dealers will replace the air bag
inflator free of charge. The recall is
expected to begin on or before December 22,
2008. 08V593
OCTOBER 2008 --
Honda is recalling 128 MY 2008-2009 Civic
sedans. A bracket that covers the fuel hose
connector is secured with a bolt and nut,
but during assembly, the nut was not
installed. In the event of a crash, the
bracket may become loose which could result
in damage to the fuel hose connector. A
damaged connector could lead to a fuel leak
and increases the risk of a fire. Dealers
will install a nut on the fuel feed hose
bracket. The recall is expected to begin
during November 2008. . 08V535
AUGUST 2007 --
Honda is recalling 182,756 MY
2006-2007 Civic sedan and coupe model vehicles. The wheel speed
sensor housing uses an O-ring seal to prevent leakage to or from
the wheel bearing. If assembled improperly, the O-ring may not
seal properly allowing water to enter the wheel bearing and
eventually cause damage to the bearing, especially in areas
where use of road salt is prevalent. If the driver continues to
drive with this condition, it is possible for the wheel bearing
to become loose, which could cause the bearing to fail. This
could cause a wheel to fall off of the vehicle, possibly
resulting in a crash. Dealers will inspect the rear ABS sensors
and wheel bearings for damaged parts and replace them. The
recall began on September 25, 2007. 07V399
AUGUST 2007 --
Honda is recalling 19,904 MY 2006
Civic sedan and hybrid vehicles. During assembly, the telescopic
steering column mechanism may have been over-lubricated with
silicone grease. Over time, some of this extra grease may drip
on the brake light switch causing the switch to fail. Failure
may result in a loss of brake lights and an increased risk that
the vehicle could be struck in the rear. In addition, a failed
brake light switch could prevent shifting the transmission from
the park position (vehicles with an automatic transmission).
Dealers will replace the brake light switch and install a
protective cover over the switch. The recall is expected to
begin during October 2007. 07V402

NEWS: Honda
Recalls 182,756 Civics Over Wheel-Bearing
Leak
Sept. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Honda
Motor Co. is recalling 182,756 Civics, the
automaker's second-best selling U.S. model,
to fix a wheel-bearing seal that may leak
and cause the wheel to fall off.
The recall, covering 2006 and 2007
model-year Civic sedans and coupes, was
reported on the U.S. National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration Web site. The
affected models were made from March 24,
2005, through Feb. 8, 2007, Honda said.
Water may be able to seep past an O-ring
seal on the wheel bearing, damaging the
bearing, Tokyo-based Honda said in a letter
on the NHTSA Web site. ``This could cause a
wheel to fall off of the vehicle, possibly
resulting in a crash,'' Honda said.
Honda, No. 5 in U.S. sales this year, said
it will notify owners by mail starting Sept.
17 and replace any damaged parts for free.
No injuries or accidents have been reported,
said Honda spokesman David Iida, who is
based in Detroit.
The automaker also is recalling 19,904 2006
model-year Civic sedans and hybrids to
repair a brake-light switch that may fail,
according to a letter on the NHTSA site.
Honda said it will notify owners beginning
Sept. 27.
Grease can build up on the steering column
and allow oil to drip onto the switch,
preventing the brake lights from
illuminating and ``potentially resulting in
a crash,'' Honda said. The extra grease may
also prevent drivers from shifting gears out
of the ``Park'' position, Honda said.
The two recalls don't overlap because the
models affected were built in different
places, said Iida, who declined to say what
the recalls would cost. No accidents or
injuries have been linked to the brake-light
switch, Iida said.

NEWS:
Honda recalls 45,000 Civic Hybrids
TOKYO (AP) --
February 9, 2007 -- — Honda Motor Co. plans
to recall 45,335 Civic Hybrid sedans
worldwide to repair an electrical defect
that could stop the cars’ engines, a company
spokeswoman said Friday.
Japan’s No. 2 automaker plans to recall
7,219 of the vehicles sold domestically and
another 38,116 sold overseas, mostly in the
U.S., a Honda spokeswoman said on condition
of anonymity, citing company policy.
Honda learned about the defective voltage
converters — which could cause a short
circuit that would stop the engine and
prevent it from restarting — from overseas
reports, the company said in documents filed
Thursday with the Ministry of Land,
Infrastructure and Transport.
